Description: Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Agent

How is this medication useful? The FD has approved this drug for use in humans and in animals; however, only human products are manufactured. Dexamethasone is useful for treating inflammation of the eye caused by allergies, bacterial infections, or irritation caused by foreign objects in the eye. It may be used alone or may be used with combinations of antibiotics if necessary. You and your veterinarian will discuss why this drug is the most appropriate choice.

Side effects that usually are not serious include: Mild burning, stinging, irritation, or redness of the eyes. Drooping of the eyelid. If any of these signs are severe, worsen, or continue to be a problem, contact your veterinarian.
